You Make Me Feel So Misanthropic is a consideration of the themes of disillusionment, social awkwardness, the difficulty of communication, and failed relationships. Two dimensional surfaces are highly patterned, embracing the shallow and empty nature of people and their interactions with each other. The surface is used as a jumping off point for the text, which often works in opposition to the shallowness of the imagery by being revealing and personal. The work is informed by my own social awkwardness, particularly in my situation as an emerging artist and my attempts to define myself as such. This exhibition included a body of mixed media works on paper and wood, both large and minuscule in scale.
The show was from August 18th - September 8th at Paloranta Basement Gallery, 833 Queen St. West, Toronto
